Sunflowers

This lesson takes students on a journey from field to everyday life, exploring a vital Kansas commodity: sunflowers! All materials are provided for free by the Ellis County Farm Bureau. Students will get their hands dirty as they learn about germination, the different parts of the sunflower plant, and the process of harvesting. The lesson also explores the many uses of sunflowers and how they connect agriculture to products we use every day.

Details 

Activity One: Growing sunflowers in the classroom! 

In grow pans provided by Ellis County Farm Bureau, students can experience growing sunflower sprouts in the classroom!

Activity Two: Germination & Harvesting

Through hands-on experience of germination, students will learn how the seed turns into a plant. Then they will learn how the plant is picked for harvest! 

Activity Three: From the field to everyday life!

Why do we grow sunflowers? Discover how sunflowers are grown and how we use them.
